A Love Letter to the British Dance Floor
Social Gallery Director Chris Wigmore was commissioned by State of Flux directors, Brad Foster & Laura Weston, to support the curation and design of an exhibition to accompany a series of interviews with people involved with clubs and dancing across the decades.
“No Drinks on the Dancefloor” shared love letters to the British dance scene involving people from diverse communities in Leicester sharing stories of dancing across the decades. The project also aimed to highlight the impact of gentrification and rising costs on clubs that are forced to close down across our towns and cities. Laura Weston directed a compelling and emotional contemporary dance film which has since won a number of film festival awards. The exhibition and a special club event took place on the Mezzanine at Curve as part of the Curve Theatre Resident Creatives scheme in March 2023.
Chris utilised her experience of design, curation and production to support State of Flux to transform the mezzanine space into a club environment, and helped introduce some of the people that shared their stories from club owners to club goers.
